On June 4, 1907 United Association General Organizer Leonard instituted a plumbers, pipe fitters and gas fitters Local Union in Flint Michigan. This Local would be assigned the number 370. The Local started with 15 men and General Organizer Leonard believed that the members will stick together and the deplorable conditions under which they work will soon be a thing of the past. The 10 hour work day was soon changed to the 8 hour work day we know today. In 1929 the membership grew to 68 members and then the great depression hit and the membership decreased to 18 members until 1937 when U. A. Local 370 began growing with 36 members. During the years of growth in our communities the members of Local 370 worked on a variety of projects including auto plants for General Motors, power plants, schools, churches, hospitals, residential housing and many other projects. The members were provided fair wages and benefits that enabled them to enjoy the life and dignity that all working people deserve. |
